The house was originally built in 1500 to offer travelers & pilgrims hospitality and accommodation on their way to Saint Jacques de Compostelle (St James)
In 1683 three young nuns, linked to the Order of the Augustine settled and founded the Covent of the Holy Family here. Their lavish care and progressive medical knowledge gained a reputation and it became more a hospital (hopital) where treatments were given. Eventually in 1764 the nuns were honored, by being called to work for the Eveque (bishop) of Carpentras
The hospital continued to welcome travelers until 1922 and during the second world war the house was a place of welcome and care for the resistance
